Manifest Destiny: A WebQuest
During the middle of the 19th century, Americans were itching to expand their territorial land claims. The concept of Manifest Destiny is that it is our God given right to go out and explore the territories of the West and that God wanted us to go out and explore the West. Along with that, increased nationalism and a desire to expand, created a drive in Americans to pack up their belongings and head West. Economic gains further fueled their drive to claim new territory. Manifest Destiny not only expanded the territory of the United States, but it also created new areas of exploration and a drive for families to pick up everything they had and move their families to a land of opportunity. However, Westward expansion resulted in an increase in hostility between White settlers and Native Americans, which was the result of White settlers taking over Native American territory. The United States we know today was largely formed on the concept of Manifest Destiny and we will now explore how it impacted the development of America.
